 Post subject: Turbo 1600 Mivec

Hi i am new to the forum. Has any one turbocharged the 1600cc mivec 4G92 2nd Gen engine ? If so does anyone have details pics specs and quarter mile times . i am very interested please pm me back

I wanted to do this, but as there are no easy to find bits fir the turbo conversion...I gave up and decided to stay N/A all the way.
I thought that if the honda boys do it why not me...but it got too hard to researcha dn with all the internals and stuff needed to run a decent amount of boost it gets pretty expensive....imo

But dont let me get you down research it and see if anyone else has done it, should be a fun project.

This is a little plan for the whole 1600 turbo mivec engine, it is as follows:

Engine:
Head = port and polish
Pistions= 2.5 vr4 pistons bore 81mm with total seal pistons rings
Conrods= standard

Turbo= .60a.r compressor, 48 a.r turbine T3/T4

ECU = Greddy emanage ultimate

Injectors= 400 cc injectors

Throttle body= 64mm upgrade

Intercooler = evo 5 upgrade

Manifold = M.U.P custom build

Down pipe= 2.5" or 3"

Wastgate= 35mm external wastegate


With this plan i hope to run about 8 to 13 psi at the engine, hoping to get a good 280bhp out of the engine.

you are playing with fire intending on using the standard rods, they cant handle much more than 6-7psi on a good tune. Due to running low boost on such a high revving car you'll want a bigger wastegate than that to bleed off the excess exaust gas, otherwiseyou'll get boost spikes or just general over boosting. Also i think your turbo is a bit on the small side but im not the expert on that my flatmate is ill ask him

That turbo is way to big.

It'll be laggy and t3/t4 heat the air alot till about 16-18psi. we sell them at work and some are not good till 24psi or more in a 2l.

With that low boost a gsr sized, t26 or t28 maybe a better option.


Oh and the mivec rods snap at around 10psi.

if you sort those you should be on the right track.

Thanks Rabbit . Does anyone have any pics of a 1600 mivec turbo setup ? Where can i get upgraded rods for the 4g92 mivec.

rods have to be custom as they are 119.9-120mm and have the huge bottom end to fit the oversized cranks mitsi use. Crower is the cheapest place i could find to do custom rods but they are heavier than most. they usually make them big and strong to take higher boost, but the custom ones maybe light enough.

You also need to get the 19 press fix pin if you want to use stock piston.

Have you checked to pistons height and thatthe have deep valve pockets. you have to drop gsr pistons 3.5 mm to clear the valves with would make the rods to short.

The T3/T4 he mentioned is not 2 big, its 2 small. Coz he is mentioned .48 rear exhaust housing. There are alot of different types of T3/4 Turbo, it dpends on the wheel size, rear and front housing size. PLain or Ball bearing. If you running small turbo, you will plan to lose top end power, if you running big turbo, then you will lose low end power, but you will have heaps mid and top power.

year depends how much you got
it you want custom pistons (or can afford) their are some vw rods that will fit that eagle make
you need custom pistons though
as the compression height changes to 25 which is good

get custom rods made up and then you can use a very short compression height of around 23 mills and then you change the terrible R/S ratio that the mivecs used..
not a cheap idea though
but one of the better options if you can afford it

even with low compression pistons, the head design brings it up high
so you really want custom ones to save the need for a decompression plate

mabny a mivec turbos blew up from to much compression

I wonder if the gsr manafold will fit
it possibly will then you can just use the evo turbo
Ive seen a td05 hitt good boost at about 2200

Ie no lag

And those 400cc injectors will probably be too big for a 1600 to handle during crank and idle.

I put 390's in my Gen1 with a haltech ecu and it couldn't idle. Even at the smallest injector duration it was too much fuel.

yeah I have that problem too :( But if you idle at 1200+ rpm its ok. Still hard to start tho. Need something in between the 270 and 390...320 or something would probably be ok.

Long story short...

No and stock I run 240cc.

Going to 390cc is about 60% increase in fuel but, as I said, I couldn't pull out 60% of injector time. If you went from 270 to 390 that's ~45% increase which is still big
