I'll be writing the first chip very soon thanks to Bart lending me his fancy chip programmer.

I can do a test one that runs:

revcut at 6000rpm
speedcut 110kph or 60kph
and the stock maps

Maybe a 900rpm idle target too.

Its really a test to make sure the data points are correct not a tuned chip, that comes later.

I'd test it on my car but its a blodoy gen2  So tempted to buy a gen1

could be tempted but car has the bottom off it at the moment, just fixing an annoying slow oil leak from upper oil pan. So that involves taking off exhaust north south member and one drive shaft out. Pain in the arse really. Might put my spare box in at the same time seeing as all that is out.

Perhaps I'll look into having that chip exchanger socket put in or maybe a dual one.

tuning on the fly would be ideal though

Yeah Bart it took me like 8 years to get sick enough of it to finally buy the gasket glue stuff and get around to doing it. Mind you the car has been in bits for 2 weeks now as I managed to rip a finger nail off in the process (dont ask) which put a damper on my enthusiasm.

Im just moving the power steering and aircon pump to get the exhaust manifold off. Wish I had a manual rack and didnt like air con :)

Sorry for digging up a dinosaur thread but i'm interested to hear if anyone has continued on and developed a definition file to tune the gen 1 Mivec ecu's?

At first i wanted to just be able log engine parameters as i think i have a sensor playing up as the idle mixture is all over the show but i'd love to be able to edit the fueling and rev limiter etc as well.

Whats the best way to do it these days?
I'm a newb when it comes to emulators, hex editing, logging etc.

I made the mistake of buying one of those boostlab chips off trade me which is complete rubbish but am intrigued how he edits the tune and writes it to a chip nonetheless.

Evoscan should work for logging.
I've been using MMCD on my GTO for over 10 years.
MMCD might work too?

If you want to change fuelling or timing, piggybacks still work well like they always have done.

It depends on the year of the car and what computer is in it.
You could always get a flashable computer out of a evo5 or later, one with a plastic case, flash it so that it's speed density?

To me , chipping is a total waste of time because every time you want to make a change, you need a new chip. Realistically the same applies to a reflash too. With piggybacks , you just turn a knob while you're driving.
