Replacing seals. Noticed scouring on the low lift camshalf profile, on the inlet camshaft of a generation 2 4g92 mivec motor.

Can anyone let me know if this is common on these? Is it even worth worring about? Is it a sign of age or misuse ? Any feedback would be appreciated cheers.

Hi there,
I would say that is a problem. It looks like it's worn through the hardened surface.
At a guess the rocker roller is not turning freely any more and dragging on the cam.
New camshaft new rocker on a least that lobe.
Not sure of the life your engine has had but might be a case of stripping the cam tray down and going through everything to clean and check for wear.

Cheers
Craig

I wouldn't worry about it.

It's a roller cam so they're not like flat tappet cams which are hardened and destroy themselves quickly when it goes wrong.

Cheers for the information guys. Just got cambelt and seals when noticed it. Just put it back together. Doesn't seem to cause it any difference
