Hey guys, i just bought a lancer cb with a mivec md engine on and theres a valve clapping, i dont know which one. I opened it up and did a valve clearance. Is it a common problem?? Do i have to go further in to check if the valve is hitting a piston or something?? Thanks!

Do you mean there is a loud ticking noise?
If a valve was hitting a piston the engine would not be running.

I would suggest that you may have one or more valve clearances that are incorrect

Are you sure the clearance is all correct?
And how loud is the ticking?

The engine will never be completely silent.
The valves will likely always tick not to mention the injectors make a ticking noise too which is surprisingly loud

The injectors?? Why would the injectors make a noise?? Will they need to be replaced??

Because injectors open/close to spray fuel into the combustion chamber.
They naturally make a ticking noise and no this does not mean they will need to be replaced.

Don't expect to get your car silent the way new cars are, it will never happen

Its a loud ticking noise, and i can understan that its not normal. If i measure the impendance of each injector, will i find the one that doesnt work properly?? And if i do, how much is the right impendance, or how small will the difference be??

Also if you did a DIY valve clearance then are you sure they are all done correctly?
The clearances are very tight and it is easy to get it wrong

Check all the mivec pins. There's a lot of them in the MD head and they should be free and easy to move. Also there are hydraulic dampers that sit under the cam tray and can get filled with old oil.
You can see them in pairs along the center of the cam tray. The two at one end are easy to remove to have a look at. On a 4cm alloy block that does cover the cam shafts.

Check the clearance again. The rockers can crack or a rollover bearing may have died, so check the cams are still smooth.

That doesn't sound good, and I wouldn't be revving it that much.

How long has that noise been there for?
Only after you did a valve adjustment or prior?

I am not an expert but have a search for "rod knock" on YouTube and see if the sound is similar to yours

Might be an engine bearing. Sounds a lot like when mine failed - and before it seized :(
