If any of you are considering dropping an EVO engine mitsi, we've just finished developing a FWD conversion for an EVO gearbox, so now you can get a box that will handle the power that you can push out of your EVO engine.

The conversion includes a transfer blanking plate, new bearings and quaife LSD, this all then mates up to standard EVO internals, or in my case Im running a PPG Drag Dog box rated at 1000bhp

Looks good,
Could this be done to the 6 speed from Evo IX or just the 5 speed gearboxes?

I dont know if the casing is the same, or the standard diff. I will see if I can find out.

Hey Richard, been a long time :-)

with no transfer case, you must use a custom RH axle?

my conversion was a little more budget oriented

Hi Peter, hope your well.

I had to have custom axles anyway as its was going into an FTO :) I thought about going the route you've gone, but wasnt sure how that would handle almost 1000bhp, and then youve also got 2 diffs to worry about :)

Why cant you use a EA2A or even better a EA5A Galant 5M42 gearbox for a FWD EVO 4-9 conversion onwards? Sure you will need to do a Diff as none of them get a LSD but they are fairly strong, there is a friend of mine runs a CK lancer with 400WKW and runs a galant box and hasnt had an dramas.

I guess the EVOs do run a bigger diff and pinion which would help (esp 1000hp) but otherwise final drive aside they are pretty much the same as a FWD mitsi box

Cameron I believe the idea behind this is to have a FWD Evo box with aftermarket straight cut gears installed

yes I tried F5M42 boxes that mated straight up to the EVO block but wouldnt take the power.

I needed a good dog box, so went for the PPG Drag Dogbox rated at 1000bhp

Is this conversion for an evo box to be able to adapt to a 1.6 4g92 mivec engine or are you converting an evo gearbox to fwd to use on an evo 4g63 engine

Same series box so yes, well that goes for Gen2 anyway, 4G93BT GSR runs the exact same box as EVO 4 but with different ratios.
