Hi Everyone.

Has anyone had any experience changing the FD on a manual FTO (MIVEC) gearbox?

Would really love to hear your experiences.

Thanks

Hey mate all CJ4A mivecs get a 4.625 final drive so I'm assuming a FTO GPversionR gets a CJ4A box as opposed to the GPX Mivec FTO gets a 4.3 something fina drive.

All the F5M42 gearboxes are interchangeable so if you want to change a final drive you can just change crown wheel and pinion but that's quite a large job (done this before)

I'm not sure if you are wanting to change to a 4.6 or if you have a 4.6 fd as that's the best fd mitsi do in any gearbox so you will have to go aftermarket if you want closer

I used a CJ4A gearset and final drive with the 6A12.
This gives a taller 1st and 5th gear, so your 1--> 2 shift stays in MIVEC and you rev no more on the highway that stock, yet get better acceleration throughout.

I cannot understand why Mitsubishi did not use these ratios and FD on the FTO, it would've made the car so much better (at least if the Version R received it, it would be a more special car compared to the GPX)

Totally agree on the 4.6 final drive and gear set ratio, Gpvr should have that over the one it has from the factory, it makes so much of a difference!

Hi team sorry for late response and thanks to everyone who has posted.

So if I get my hands on a complete CJ4A gearbox manual/auto I will have everything I need to do this? Everything is interchangeable and drop in with no modifications required?

Which cars has the CJ4A gearbox?

I ran some tests on Gran Turismo last night simulating this FD and the car is completely a new beast! Much better drive.

It is possible you can use the complete gearbox but the drivehshafts may be a different size. Otherwise the internals will swap over and you can use your original diff.

CJ4A is the chassis code for the 1.6 MIVEC Mirage, so you need one from the 96+ 1.6 MIVEC equipped cars.
CK4A is the sedan version of this

only mivec gets that FD.

I have a factory one here i think. if you just want a crown and pinion.
its a shit job to swap it all out though, but good chance to clean out the old bearings

Hi Rabbit, do you still have the crown and pinion from the mivec? Im assuming 4.625 FD for F5m421? 74 teeth on crown and 16 on pinion? will you be willing to ship this to Singapore?
