Hi guys, im from sunny Wales and I have a Proton Satria GTi that has the 1800cc 4G93p engine. It has a standard gearbox and im looking for something with a better final drive. Is there a gearbox that can be mated to the engine that has something like a 4:7 final drive or is there a crown wheel and pinion I can use from another car and put it into the Proton gearbox?

Cheers
Arwel

What year?
What side is the gearbox on?
The pre 1995 mivec has way more you have to change than the later one.
I have the newer 4.65:1 that came from mine when I replaced it.

Hi, its a 2002 model and the gearbox is on the left side of the engine if you were looking at it with the bonnet open.
A 4.6 would be ideal as the car is used for rallying. A mate of mine is running an identical car with a gearbox from a Mitsubishi Spacewagon 2.0 16v SOHC which apparently has a 4:7 final drive and was a direct fit.

The best you will get from factory parts is spacestar or mivec box(4.6)
Ralliart final drives are 4.85 and are about £350 from speed gear racing(Malaysia),my brother has imported about 10 sets now to sell to road rally mates , the last few have been coming damaged and they will not accept them back! Also watch out for import duty which iirc is £100 but you may get away with it.They are thin on the ground now as well.

Have tried all the above, not a real big difference between a standard 4.3 Gti and a 4.6,best bet is to get a 4.85.My cousin is running one in his car and it's a lot better.Be aware you have to mill a section of the gearbox casing to fit the crownwheel.

I run the Hockly Dog Box and it's mega and worth every penny but they are ££££
