Hey, im sure this has been covered before but i cant find the info...

Basically ive got a 4g92 mivec engine, bolted up to my 4g15 Dohc manual trans (cant remember gearbox code right now)
Its got a flywheel from a 4g92 i beleive.
So i tried to start it after the engine conversion, and have come to the conclusion my starter motor hasnt eaten enough weetbix to start the new high compression mivec engine, and its shit itself. (prob because we kept trying too much, and i hadnt wired the ignition right xD )

Which cars starter motor will fit? or are they all universal? im after the beefiest starter possible, but price is a big factor.
Theres a few auto 4g93s at the wreckers, im assuming that starter will work fine?
otherwise one from a 6a12 fto sounds like it would have a little more perk?
i think theres still a vr-4 galant there too, would that work?
otherwise theres allways evo parts on the interwebs i can get?

Cheers fellas :)

gen 1 or gen 2?

Gen 1 manual ring gear has 106 teeth
Gen 2 manual ring gear has 110 teeth

Check the 4g93 torque converter teeth on the scrap car to see if they have the same number of teeth. If they do then they will bolt in with no problem.

Gen 1 starter motor varies in power from 0.7 to 1kw
Gen 2 varies from 0.9 to 1.2kw (newer years being more powerful)

sorry, its a gen 2 (1996, 1997 for the US)

so any starter having .9 to 1.2 kw would start it? coz i know its printed on the starter so ill just look round the wreckers for one with that rating (that would fit)

im not sure what the power rating of the ones i tried were, they were for the 4g15 DOHC engine part number MD3013 if anyone knows.

thanks man, did realise the last 2 numbers mattered, it was an MD3013 50, so the .7 kw one, not much surprise it had trouble starting it.

Does anyone know if the normal 4g92 SOHC will have the juice needed? or how much killopowers the 4g93 DOHC one puts out?
Cheers for the help errone

If it helps I ran a 93 turbo starter on my Mivec engine its identical just smaller and lighter but it was really hard to start it started but it was a struggle every time, so I changed to a 92 Mivec one and it works so well, my engine is 12.5 comp so it may not be accurate for your engine but I don't suggest running a 92 sohc one but it will work ok
