LOL @ feral. I will use that one when I get teased about the paint work

Got alot done today :)

Got the head back on & the motor timed :D Piston to valve clearance is good with the thinner gen 2 head gasket and the Jun cams. I need to set the cam/rocker clearance and I am borrowing a cam degree wheel next week to tackle finding the real 0* for the cams.

I welded one of the heater ports shut and a 1/8" npt fitting to the other for a coolant temp gauge.

Port matched the join on the intake manifold. There are a few small gaps, the fit up prior to welding was not 100%. I still have to sort out a fuel rail mount, throttle cable mount, modify one of the honda idle air ports for the MAP sensor, drill and tap 2 holes for the throttle body and weld shut the honda air temp sensor opening.

-8AN bung welded to the valve cover

I got the new fuel filter to rail line made up and one of the catch can lines but no pics

The valve cover is going off to the powder coater for some kinda blue or teal if he has it in stock

Finally! The motor and transmission are back together and in the car.

Image
Moved the FPR to the middle of the fire wall and used the old MAP sensor bracket for it.

Image
Added the vacuum source for the catch can (pay no attention to the booster rust, the master has been changed to one that doesn't leak and I have another booster to put in that is prettier)

Image
Catch can mounted. I only went with the single line due to cost constraints. I will probably add another port off the valve cover next year if it needs it. I really need some radiator hoses and nicer clamps. You can almost see the mad jdm tyte blitz radiator cap lol

Image
The Mitsu-onda manifold & Evo 3 510cc injectors. I need to see if I can rotate the brake vacuum source to point down. I still need to weld on some tabs for the throttle cable. I still need to block off that one vacuum nipple facing the front of the car and run a hose to the PCV valve

thanks :)

The wiring harness is taking a little longer than anticipated but hopefully I get that sorted this week so I can get back up and running

new GM IAT plug

I'll have some pics up friday of the full harness :D. The ignitor has been relocated inside by the ECU, the AEM wideband is integrated into the harness as well, the gauge will plug into a connector near the ecu.

The charge harness will be replicated (no fancy tucking or anything) as well....6ga silver milspec wire for the alternator and starter ...YUM!

Got everything plugged in earlier but the battery was dead so I will have to sort that out during the week.

It's alive!

I still have to wire up the wide band and fix a rather large vacuum leak. I take care of that this evening. Friday I will reset the ignition timing and get cracking on a re-tune!

Had to sort out a few leaks, some vacuum and a coolant leak but it's all done and ready for tuning!

1 year later lol

Shortly after my last post I bent an intake valve. Spotted a used cylinder head on yahoo japan auctions, much to my surprise it was already ported. The cut down the exhaust guides which I wouldn't have done. I deshrouded the valves but forgot to take pictures.

Bowl work.

The car is still a non-runner. I gave up on getting the Evo 8 ecu to work and bought a Haltech platinum sport 1000. I should be getting the repinned/replugged wiring harness back this week. Also had them do a coil on plug conversion with K20 coils so I can run direct fire instead of wasted spark.

My brother bought a GSXR 1000 with a hurt engine so I got the throttle bodies from it and well....one thing lead to another and

Image
Used the stock intake manifold flange and some 1.75 OD sch40 aluminum pipe. The port spacing for the Mirage is 88-88-88 mm where as the throttle bodies were 75-75-75 mm. I separated the 2 pairs of throttle bodies and ended up making some pieces 76mm long with a 5* cut on the throttle body side and a compound angle cut of 20* and 5* to point the throttle bodies and the runners together on the intake manifold side if that makes sense?

I still have to buy some velocity stacks and some vacuum stuff to completed the conversion. I will be using the bike primary injector ports as the vacuum source for the map sensor and brake booster.

Not sure what to do about feeding air to the throttle bodies though, options are to use the fog light holes and run ducting or pop a hole in the upper firewall cowl area. Not sure about cutting up the bonnet to add a scoop.

Hope to have it running for Feb 2015 when the autocross season starts again. I can't wait to hear what the high cam will sound like on the ITB's.

Got the harness back :) The K20 coil conversion will be ready to pick up mid Jan.

Plan is to clean up the intake manifold runners and see if my base map works this weekend.

Still need to order the radiator hose stuff, mount the radiator itself, toss a fan on there and mock up a plate for the K20 coils to mount.

After all that it's just some velocity stacks and a proper tune away from some autocross action! I probably won't plumb the hydraulic handbrake and proportioning valve until next season. To be honest it doesn't need the hydraulic brake but they are a lot of fun :D

Got a little bit of work done last weekend. I should have the radiator hoses and filler neck later on today. Can't wait to get those assembled and welded up so I can get the start up map taken care of!

Got the radiator filler neck sorted, modified the throttle cable pulley to operate smoother and made a mold of an MK2 Pajero hood scoop.

Hopefully next week I can get it started since all the vacuum related items will be here then.
