That half-cage, are you going to add more bars?

You need a bar going from the bottom of the b-piller to the point on the wheel arch.

In an ideal world maybe but think I'd rather have front legs first.

Mines built to RAC MSA spec for stage rallying in the UK and doesn't include those bars, though I know the hockley cage does, but then the custom cages one does, it extends the door bar back to the rear foot instead.

Pic shows rear portion of mine without the front legs and door bars attached.

There have been a couple serious accidents here where the car went backwards into things, and because of the force of the impact the rear bars compressed allowing the belts to slacken and caused the driver/co-driver to move around and a few had some serious injuries because of it.

I can see that issue but where do you stop adding bars. Even WRC cages are designed to deform. If you creat a completely solid structure in the event of a serious accident the occupants just die from internal injuries cause of the sudden decelleration but are completely unscathed on the outside.

I'm all for proper design and energy absorbing is part of a proper design, much like harness bars that don't move are part of a proper design.

Adding more bars to make up for a poor initial design can cause more harm as you say.

Half cages aren't legal for motorsport events in NZ for events that require a cage, bolt in cages as far as i remember aren't legal either. I'd need to double check the reg's on that one.

More bars will be going in that is just a starting point, but stil decideding how many and were as trying to keep weight down and make it pratical to get in and out of when i drive it on the road :)

Keeping it practical is always a bit of a hurdle for a caged car on the street... thats what's keeping mine from a full-on cage. Build looks promising! :)

No bolt-ins allowed for MSNZ events...
