Time to spend some money on the race car... after spending time in Europe and saving for a house the car is back on the list of 'to dos'.

Here are some photos of the latest changes. :)

Loaded up and ready to roll to the engineers work shop.

Said engineers workshop

Fancy new seat.

Image
Love the side bars, easy to get in and out with my short legs and nice and strong.

Image
Cage rear view.

Image
Nice and simple...

Image
Front view. Cage very well tucked away in the front portion of the car, love that its tight to the body and welded to the shell.

Plan is to have it ready to hit the track in Jan 2013 with all the new mods completed.

Nice cage Chelles, your right the design of the side intrusion makes it easy to get into, does the cage go through to the front strut towers?

In the Motorsport Regs, cars without factory airbag dont have to but if it had a factory front airbag/s they must go through to front strut tower (even though gen 2 chassis is the same regardless) So you dont have to :D

Jan 2013, im planning to have mine done by then to also so we should do some testing at manfield in the new year :D

Thanks Cam :)
No, it doesn't go through to the front struts, not needed as you say. I did put the newly required harness bar (Jan2013) in though as I thought I might as well meet the new standard now, plus it will help have less slack in the top straps when I'm pretty much sitting at the windscreen when I drive.
I'm trying for Port Rd Street Sprint in Jan for my first event for a shake down... that way its close to home if all goes pear shaped.

My Big thing was making it easy to get out of as the stand X at the side makes it a mission for someone who sits so close. I 'tested' a few side intrusion bars in other peoples cars before I came to the one I have there.

Its off to MSNZ for homologation now and then some pretty red paint to match the seat, oh and of course putting it all back together again! :D

Fun times!!

Im surprised you didnt go through the front towers, i know you didnt need to but for the sake of a small amount of tubing and trying to make the body rigid i would have done it anyways, i even put a bar from the firewall down to the floor to make the triangle for strength, it is the weakest point on the mirages for sure (probably most jap cars for that matter) im glad i did it on mine :D

Didn't want to get too much weight into the car... not much power to add lots of weight with the jungle gym :)

Been busy with the Photography Business and the start of wedding season so the car is going a bit slow... but I've managed some paint on the roll cage and sorted out a test fit of the dash. Feels a bit sad to be hacking up an RS dash, but its gotta be done I guess.

Another update... things taking awhile but getting there!

I've been working on getting the interior back together as the car needs to be all done for Port Road Street Sprints on 20 Jan :!:

Image
Managed to get the original door cards back into the car. So pleased about that as I wanted it to still look good.

Image
Have sprayed the interior gray to clean it up... 15 years of use meant the interior was looking very second hand!

Image
Rear view with all the fresh paint and light wiring tucked away. Looking fresh!

Next mission is to reinstall the dash... But have a handy dandy specialist on the job for that one. (thanks Cameron!)

Wow, you're going to be a whole heap quicker once your confidence builds...

Good work!
